My phone vibrated in my pocket. When I checked it was a text message from my date. She apologized but she was running late. I texted back that I would be waiting inside the cafe. Going inside I ordered a cappuccino and a brownie then settled into a table at the back. About five minutes later, as I was absently scrolling on my phone, a girl came up and asked if I was RightKindofEyez. I said yes and was a little surprised and told her I expected her to take much longer. She just smiled and sat down.

She didn't really look like her pictures but that's app dating for you. After recovering from her initial shyness we had a very good conversation. She told me all about what she was studying in college and was interested in what I was planning to do after graduation. The half an hour we spent talking just flew by and was only broken up when she excused herself to use the restroom. As soon as she was out of my sight my phone began vibrating from a caller. It was my date calling. A new voice told me that she was waiting almost there and apologized for taking so long. Perplexed I told her it was fine and that I was still waiting in the back.

In a few minutes a new girl arrived and asked me again if I was RightKindofEyez. Again I said yes and she introduced herself as my date. Now showing my confusion I asked her what was going on and if this was some kind of prank. She seemed as confused as me so I explained. Her face went white as I described the girl. She said, That's my high school best friend Cindy. I told her she could call Cindy and tell her the joke was over. My date stayed silent for a moment then answered in a whisper, Cindy died in a car accident the summer after graduation.
