This prompt gets me thinking about what makes the perfect reading/writing experience. For me it isn’t so much the space itself. It is the lack of distractions. The freedom of time that makes reading/writing a good experience.
Right now I am writing this piece at the same desk I use for work. However, I could never write something during my work hours. It would be too stressful trying to concentrate on writing and knowing an email or text could come in at any moment and interupt me. Even now the cell phone is a threat to my focus.
If you want to know what makes a space suitable for reading and writing it is a place where one can focus. Where the problems of life fade and distractions are held at bay. My ideal writing place isn’t so much a place but a time. An eternal Sunday afternoon.
