I was recently looking through an old journal of mine. There were entries as far back as 2014. The ones that drew my particular interest were from 2015. Back when I was still working two jobs and generally not enjoying life. Looking through the worn and stained pages of the little Field Notes notebook brought me back to that time. In the moment it felt like a big decisions. In a lot of ways it wasn’t such a big deal but it lead to a lot of changes in my life. With one job close to where I lived I was able to start biking to work. That decision alone started me focusing on health and may have ultimately added years to my life. At the very least it lead to the development of my favorite recreational activity. It also set me on the path of seeking my own place in the world. Just three years later I would buy my own coop.
The lesson I take away from this is you never know what a decision might snowball into. What seemed uncertain and painful at the time lead to more growth and life improvement than I could have hoped for.
