Drunks
A missed submission
Note: The following is a piece of flash fiction I wrote intending to submit to drunks. But I missed the submission window. So here it is for your enjoyment.
“Sometimes a lie can tell a bigger the truth. By hiding our secrets the lie points to what we hold most dear. What we love.
“Think about it, the liar is despised. More so than the thief. That is the risk we take when we tell a lie. The lost honor and a cloak of shame. To risk that much is a testament to all that we love and fear.”
“Sir,” said the state trooper, “I’ll ask you again, Have you been drinking tonight?”
In the 90s series Northern Exposure, Chris from Chris in the Morning has to take the stand. He's asked if he can tell "the whole truth" for the oath.
He goes on a rant about he can only tell his truth, and he refuses to take the oath.
He was let go, so you know, it can work. On TV. :)
