I read a really good story last night, Georgia Buddha. It was the Passage Prize fiction winner and it really blew me away how well constructed it was. It was the kind of story I wish I could write. Grounded in reality but with deep and important lessons. I’m definitely going to reread it. There was some symbolism that I am still unpacking and probably a lot of stuff I missed.
When thinking about my own writing I’m seeing that I seldom know how to start or even where I want to go. Having read the Zero HP intro section I think I have a better idea now of how a story should be constructed. Still a lot of theory to learn. I’m excited to try more experiments and see how things go.
One thing I need to do is gt out of my own way. I always think my own stories aren’t that interesting but then I remember some weird stuff that happened or something meanigful to me. There’s a lesson; write when the insperation strikes.
One more minute. I kind of like these free form prompts. More like just a brain dump but it’s a good excercise. That’s a good thing. Brain dumps once a day. Might help me limber up and write something that will be worth reading for once.
Fifteen seconds and we’re almost done for today. But I don’t want it to end.
