The van drove down the LIE heading east while I laid on the couch. School was finally out and I could help with the big move. Just in time for the last van load. It was an incredible June day. Just the perfect time of year in New York when outside is comfortable and the AC can still stay off at night.
I didn’t realize it then but this was the end of the line. The last few months where life would be totally unburdened. When the prospect of a new day was easy and the future nothing but bright. That September I would start college and my life would slowly become my own with all that would entail.
We arrived at the new house in time for lunch. Then work painting mostly. Then installing new outlets. I remember writing my name and some stuff on the back of one of the face plates. It must still be there. We spent the time with the radio on the classic rock station. A few trips to Home Depot and pizza for dinner.
It’s funny how just a few days can summarize an entire period of a life.
