We were about a mile off the coast when the ship went down. Close enough to swim, I though. If I knew how to swim and if the current wasn’t pulling the water back to open ocean. The life raft was the only thing that kept us from drowning. The boat sank, the land disappeared in the horizon and the sun went down. My guess was we would be reported missing in the morning. Then search parties would be out to look for us. Just have to hold on through the night.
The sky was bright and clear and someone said they could see a light coming from land off in the distance. I didn’t see it but I heard the distinct howl of a wolf. At least when you’re lost at sea the wolves don’t scare you.
